NEWCASTLE, CA - A couple challenged themselves and others to save jobs in this struggling economy.

They decided to build their dream home in Newcastle from the ground up entirely out of U.S.-made products. From the concrete to the ribar to the nails, it's all made in America.

Many new homes have nails built in China.

"It's very surprising that something so small isn't even made here," Renee DuBois said. "We're getting it from half way around the world and we don't need to."

The same often goes for concrete.

"They were going to get it off the ship in Stockton. It came from China," Patrick DuBois said.

The DuBois said buying things made in America could save jobs.

"Builders purchase just 5 percent more American-made goods that would create nearly a quarter million jobs," DuBois explained.

The DuBois said many domestic supplies cost the same, if not less, than the foreign-made supplies. They estimate that their home will probably cost about 3 percent more, but they'll have to wait and see.
