Smoke blanketing Sacramento from surrounding fires

JOICE ISLAND, CA - Residents in the Sacramento area were seeing and smelling smoke Monday evening. Fire officials said the causewas a 20-acre vegetation fire burning at Joice Island in Solano County.

Suisun Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Sean Wink said the fire burned 20 acres of moss and tule. The burning  vegetation created smoke in the surrounding area, which traveled to Sacramento area skies.

The fire was on a private duck club on Joice Island, near the Grizzly Island Wildlife area.

The fire was contained, but firefighters will be mopping up until midnight, Wink said.
