BUTTE COUNTY, CA - Searchers with the FBI and the Butte County's Sheriff Office were digging around a house in the Gridley-Biggs area following information a missing teen may be buried there.

The case dates back to 1973 and involves a 15-year-old girl from Gridley, according to sheriff's Det. Jason Hail. Authorities were withholding the name of the girl.

The excavation was taking place at Larkin Road and Lattin Road in Biggs.

Hail said animal bones have been found but as of late Monday, no human bones.

The missing girl lived in a Butte County group home. Detectives say her mother was aware of the search.

Hail said foul play was suspected in the disappearance of the girl.

The search at the property was not the first. Sheriff's Lt. Al Smith said there were no findings from an excavation conducted last year. Still, detectives continued to work the case and Smith said they developed new information.

Searchers did not say what caused them to hone in on the dig location Monday, but a source told News10 a man on his deathbed provided information.

The excavation began at 8 Monday morning and Hail expected the digging would continue into most of Tuesday.
