STOCKTON, CA - A new University of the Pacific graduate was one of those injured in the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting overnight.

Petra Anderson, who received her degree in music composition in May, was undergoing surgery in an Aurora hospital, said Elizabeth Griego, UOP Vice President for Student Life.

Anderson was shot four times with pellets. One pellet entered her nose and traveled through her brain.

Her boyfriend, Austin Hogan, said that while Anderson was responding to doctors, she had trouble recalling basic information about herself.

Anderson's family told UOP that doctors were hopeful she would recover from her injuries.

Anderson was the university's 2011 Conservatory of Music Presser Scholar, which is a national honor. She worked as an assistant residence director as well as in the Office of Admissions, said Griego.

Aurora police said 12 were killed and several dozen injured in the shooting rampage at a midnight showing of the latest Batman offering, "The Dark Knight Rises." Police took suspect James Holmes, 24, into custody in the theater's parking lot.
