FAIRFIELD, CA - A 23-year-old Fairfield man is in stable condition Thursday after being shot while standing outside an apartment building on Dana Drive Wednesday night.
Officer Cleo Mayoral of the Fairfield Police Dept. said officers responded to the apartment complex around 9:48 p.m. and found the man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left torso area. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery for his wound.
An investigation by Major Crime Unit Detectives and Crime Scene personnel revealed the man was standing in front of the apartment building when shots were fired in his direction, hitting the man and the building, said Mayoral.
Officers canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and processed evidence at the scene, but were unable to determine whether or not the victim was the intended target of the shooting.
The only description investigators were able to obtain of a suspected shooter was that of a black man wearing all black clothing and running away from the area on foot.
According to Mayoral, the Fairfield Police Dept. did not receive any information indicating that the shooting was gang related.
