STOCKTON, CA - A pharmacist shot a robber first after being ordered to the ground and told to hand over the business's money Thursday.

The shooting happened at Stockton Pharmacy on East Main Street around 1:30 p.m., Stockton police Det. Joe Silva said.

It wasn't clear if the armed gunman was hit because he immediately ran from the scene. A wounded man was located a short time later in north Stockton, but it wasn't clear if it was the same man, Silva said.

Silva said the man was taken from the scene by a waiting vehicle.

Because the pharmacist feared for his life and the safety of others in the business, he was not out of line shooting first, Silva said.
