SACRAMENTO, CA - Her degree is in bio chemistry, but August's Teacher of the Month found her love and career in education.
For Will C. Wood Middle School Science teacher Kimberly Miyasaki, teaching is her passion. She said she didn't develop it until she attended a college summer program helping young kids.
"I really enjoyed it," Miyasaki said. "I thought I would be more interested in the curriculum, but I really loved the kids. That's what got me getting my credential and going into teaching."
Miyasaki is dedicated and energized more than ever. She said she draws her energy from her students.
Miysaksi is not only the science teacher, but she's also a math wiz. She's the school's mathletes advisor, helping the team compete against others schools across the district. Since she's been with the team, they have placed every time in competition.
"I like math," Miyasaki said. "I don't have a strong background in math, but I have some."
She said she loves to read and is a part of the school's million word reading program. As for success in the classroom, she said success starts with reading.
