Teacher of the Month April 2013 Tara Grudin
EL DORADO, CA - Making the jump from teaching in front of a classroom to behind a computer can be tough for some.
But April's Teacher of Month Tara Grudin not only did it, she's proving that you can still connect with your students even when they're miles away.
Grudin is lead teacher at the Virtual Academy at Shenandoah and she is doing what she loves most.
"My philosophy is love kids and that is the one thing you have to have as a teacher," Grudin said.
Her classes are virtual, meaning her students can physically roll out of bed and sign in online.
"I Skype with Tara when I don't know how to do something on my assignment or I need extra help because she is always there," student Briana Williams said.
Grudin said she posts her entire curriculum online for her students and works hard at keeping them connected.
Grudin said she was influenced by her high school teacher to become one herself. As for what makes teaching worth it, she said it comes down to one moment.
"The best thing is when I see a student struggle and then they get it," Grudin explained. "It's like their, 'ahh haa moment.' It makes it worth while."
