SACRAMENTO, CA - Assembly Bill 2109 won approval from a Senate Health Committee Wednesday and is moving on to the Senate for a vote.

The bill would require parents to be counseled by a doctor about the risks and benefits of vaccinations for their kids before opting out from getting the shots.

Democratic Assem. Dr. Richard Pan authored the bill.

"We think this is a simple measure, which insures parents make an informed decision." Pan said. "we are not taking parent's rights away."

But many oppose it, including actor-comedian Rob Schneider.

"The idea they're going to mandate my kids can't go to school unless they get consulted by a doctor, is crazy," Schneider said.
