SACRAMENTO - Some enterprising teens at El Camino Fundamental High School in Sacramento won accolades from the Sacramento County Office of Education for their experiment involving a balance beam.
The teens are part of the California Friday Night Live program that aims to keep teens safe. The balance beam involved teens texting while trying to walk across the balance beam. It's not an easy task as many discovered, providing a strong visual demonstration of the difficulty in concentrating on additional activities while texting.
Afterwards the teens were able sign a pledge to hang up and drive.
This week the Department of Transportation also released results from a telephone survey involving 6000 drivers who proclaimed that passengers under the age of 24 are far less likely to speak out against a driver who is texting or talking.
