Great Hang Up- Some local parents say they chose a stick shift for their teen drivers in hopes of keeping them occupied with driving rather than texting.

Britt Hurley is a 17-year-old driver and says she was less than thrilled when her parents gave her a car with a stick shift for safety, but after a few days learning, she's become comfortable with the manual transmission.

Viewers on the News10 facebook page proudly displayed their love of their stick shifts and cited gas savings as a big reason.

Overall stick shifts account for a small percentage of cars sold in the United States but remain quite popular in Asia and Europe.
