The DICE-developed FPS video game 'Battlefield 4' is published by Electronic Arts.
Just launched by Electronic Arts for the Xbox One version of Battlefield 4 (premium members only) and coming soon for non-premium Xbox One gamers and the rest of its platforms is Second Assault - the first DLC add-on for the militaristic first-person shooter out of development studio DICE.
Focusing on multiplayer, Second Assault adds four new maps, new vehicles, and expands upon the game's weaponry.
All four of the DLC's maps - Metro, Oman, Caspian, and Firestorm - should be familiar to those who played Battlefield 3 and all are worth playing again thanks to some redesigns and the power of DICE's Frostbite 3 engine. Oman seems to be the the most appealing thanks to its shattered urban environment, rocky beach, and blinding sandstorm event. Metro provides players with an inside/outside combat environment complete with lights that can be shot out for stealthy types. Caspian's biggest alteration is the existence of a huge wall separating things (it makes for an excellent CTF map). Finally, Firestorm's desert petroleum refinery setting gets literally set ablaze with deadly ignited gas leaks.
The rest of the add-ons - specifically the expanded armaments - aren't really that huge. Hardcore players should appreciate the few extra firearms and secondaries provided, but there's nothing game-breaking. That said, there's nothing that looks to be overpowered either. The return of the dune buggy is fun, but ultimately unnecessary.
Second Assault is available now on Xbox One for Battlefield 4 premium users and will become available December 3 for standard users. PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC gamers will have to wait.
