The DICE-developed FPS video game 'Battlefield 4' is published by Electronic Arts.

The launch of Electronic Arts' new Battlefield 4 video game is marked with fun in the sun and a jet flyover of the company headquarters in Redwood Shores, California.

"We've been working on Battlefield 4 for the last two years and so it's out now - today - which is a huge day for us,"  said EA's VP of Global Marketing Lincoln Hershberger.  "We've got everybody out of the office to enjoy some sun and jets flying by, so yeah the mood is great."

The jet flyover, which was performed by the Patriots Jet Team Foundation, included three passes over the quad area of EA's campus.  Flying in formation, the aircrafts then sprayed white smoke out from their backs to create a large number four over San Francisco's South Peninsula.

Powered by the advanced technology of developer DICE's proprietary Frostbite 3 engine, Battlefield 4 is now available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360,and PC.  The game lets players wage war across land, air, and sea both on foot and in a variety of military vehicles across dynamic environments and what the company refers to as "a new level of destruction."

Battlefield 4's single-player campaign follows U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Daniel Recker, who is a member of the Tombstone squad.  With the world on the brink of chaos, China proves to be the tinderbox and the player becomes the inadvertent spark that has the possibility of igniting a global conflict.  Playing as Sgt. Recker, players must navigate through the turmoil as they fight to save the final hope for peace between U.S., Russia, and China.

In the game's multiplayer mode, Battlefield 4 offers players a different range of experiences in which players engage in close quarters squad-based combat and in vast battles commandeering tanks, jeeps, jets, helicopters, and naval units.  Multiplayer features jet dogfighting, going on the offensive from onboard the deck of an attack boat in a joint strike with squad mates, and (of course) putting one's boots on the ground.  Players will lead their team to victory by running and gunning at the frontlines, locating the perfect sniping position, or repairing critically damaged vehicles.

In addition to today's current gen console and PC launch, Battlefield 4 will also be available for the PlayStation 4 as of November 12 in North America and for Xbox One starting November 19.  EA states that players who purchase a current-gen version of the game will have the opportunity to upgrade to a next-gen version for an additional ten dollars.

The ESRB has rated this game as "M for Mature".
