'World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition' from Wargaming.
It's no secret that Wargaming will be releasing its popular MMO World of Tanks onto Xbox 360. Heck, the company's president stated as such publicly during Microsoft's pre-E3 press conference in Los Angeles last month.
What wasn't made exactly clear, however, was as to why the company chose the 360 and not Sony's PlayStation 3 or Nintendo's Wii U instead - let alone why Wargaming didn't want to wait for the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft coming out later this year. Jeremy Monroe, General Manager of Wargaming America, hoped to clear the air a bit in those regards.
"When we were looking for a partner, we were looking for the best way to bring a very successful, a very engaging, a very tactical, a very action-oriented tank warfare experience to the console," he explained. "We certainly sat down and looked at all of our options and we spent a lot of time building the relationships with the folks on the other side of the table. And just every time we sat down and evaluated that experience - and the experience just isn't the game, it's also the platform - it's the Xbox LIVE platform, it's the monitization platforms, it's downloading the content and bringing it to as many people as we can. It was hands-down Microsoft."
As far as whether or not Wargaming will release World of Tanks onto PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, or Nintendo's Wii U, Monroe didn't say much other than to state that the company is currently occupied with ensuring World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition launches without a hitch. At the same time, he didn't completely dismiss the notion.
"We're always exploring our options," he said.
World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition is currently in beta. A final release date for the game has not yet been made public by the company.
