Innex's Super Retro Trio classic video game console.
Come the end of the year, fans of classic video games will have a couple of options to choose from in terms of new old school gaming hardware.
Releasing in competition to Hyperkin's Retron5, Innex/Retro-Bit's Super Retro Trio is a gaming console that plays game cartridges from year gone by.
"It plays the original Nintendos, Super Nintendo, and Genesis games," stated company representative Jenny Rodriguez.
The console also plays Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges through the use of an add-on that fits in the console's SNES cartridge slot.
"It has the cable link port on the side," she explained. "Buy the cable link, hook up to four Game Boys, so very cool there."
As far as controlling the different brands and editions of games goes, the Super Retro Trio has a fold-down front that exposes six controller ports. That's two each for NES, SNES, and Genesis. Would-be owners who are lacking original or third-party controllers for any or all of the supported systems should be aware that Innex's console will come with a pair of its own controllers as well.
"Controllers that come with SR3 will be compatible with all three," Rodriguez said.
The console hooks up to televisions via S-Video or composite "RCA" video with L/R phono audio, implying that it should be fully compatible with both modern HDTVs and most old school CRT televisions. Either way, users can expect the games to be presented on-screen in their customary standard definition format.
Innex says the Super Retro Trio will release in August.
