DC Universe Online is an MMO for the PC and PlayStation 3.
Speculation can be fun - especially in the comic book world. What if Professor Xavier never founded the School for Gifted Youngsters? What if Al Simmons never took up the role of an assassin, thus never becoming Spawn in the afterlife? Finally, what if the parents of a young Bruce Wayne were never murdered in that dark alleyway years ago?
It's this third "what if" (and others like it) that bring to players of the PC/PS3 game DC Universe Online its seventh DLC pack, known as Origin Crisis.
"Players are going to be interacting and intervening in some of the origins of some of the most famous DC characters like Batman and Superman," DCOU Creative Director Jens Andersen told News10's Game Guys in a one-on-one interview during the 2013 GDC (check out the video player above). "You're going to be involved with some of the coolest stuff you can think of going back to that moment in Crime Alley when the Waynes get shot."
Players of the DLC will also get to venture to the planet of Krypton just before the planet is set to explode, possibly affecting the rocket that would bring Kal-El to Earth whereupon he would eventually become known as Superman.
"How does that affect [Superman's] origin? These are the kinds of things that players will be involved in with this new DLC called Origin Crisis," Andersen expanded.
The DLC goes beyond simply tinkering with the cannon past of the DC universe, it also gives the in-game world a new future by giving players a fresh narrative with new thrills and dangers. This new chapter will offer Heroes and Villains an array of adventures through new Raids and Operations as Future Lex Luthor and Future Batman wage a war through time and the very fabric of reality. As the story unfolds, players will have access to an assortment of new multiplayer adventures and solo simulations.
DCUO's Origin Crisis DLC pack will be a free download for the game's Legendary members and will be available for purchase to free and premium players via the PlayStation Network, the in-game Marketplace, or for PC players via the DCUniverseOnline.com website. And, as usual, the DLC requires the core game in order to be played.
