Take-Two Interactive announced its 2K video game brand has reached a multi-year deal to create video games based on the World Wrestling Entertainment license.

The franchise of games formerly owned by bankrupt publisher THQ will return later this year with the launch of WWE '14. Japanese developer Yukes will continue to work on the series. No financial terms were disclosed.

"The WWE series is a great addition to our stable of triple-A titles, and we're very happy with this exclusive agreement with our new partners," said 2K Chief Operating Officer David Ismailer in a statement.

Take-Two's 2K label has achieved some success in the sports video game realm, most notably with the increasingly popular NBA 2K franchise.

The future of the WWE series had been up in the air following bankruptcy court proceedings that forced THQ to dissolve and have its assets split among several companies. THQ staples such as Saints Row and Company of Heroes have been scooped up by rival publishers. The lone series remaining under THQ is the action series Darksiders.
