Digital entertainment distributor Koch Media and publishing label Deep Silver is acquiring "a significant minority stake" in Infernum Productions AG, an online games developer and publisher from Berlin.

"We see great opportunities for growth in the area of free-to-play online gaming," stated Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media.  "Infernum is in an excellent position, having high-quality products and one of the most experienced teams.  Through our strategic investment, we want to support Infernum on the way to becoming a leading provider in the free-to-play market, and to participate in the enormous business potential."

Founded in 2011, Infernum Productions AG develops and markets free-to-play online games in Europe and North America.  The comopany's first release, Brick-Force, is reported as having more than 1.5 million players to date.

Koch Media states the decision to invest strategically in Infernum  constitutes an investment in the rapidly growing market of free-to-play games. Meanwhile, Infernum gains an experienced partner for international rollouts and distribution of future projects, for example the recently licensed MMO Dragon's Prophet and the in-house production Project: Theralon.  Both companies will profit from their complementary focuses in the games sector and harness synergies while continuing to operate independently.

"We are very happy to have Koch Media at our side now, a partner who is both experienced and visionary, and who will open up brand new opportunities for us with its distribution know-how, its international positioning, and its powerful brands," expressed Andreas Weidenhaupt, CEO of Infernum.  "This cooperation will enable us to take on an even more important role in our rapidly growing market."

Exact details regarding Koch Media and Deep Silver's minority acquisition were not disclosed.
