According to announcement from EA Sports exec VP Andrew Wilson, Electronic Arts has cancelled its plans to develop and publish NBA Live 13.  The title was supposed to be the company's re-entry into the pro-basketball video game market after last year's title, NBA Elite, was likewise scrapped.

"After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA Live 13," stated Wilson on NBA Live's official web site.

The decisions came after EA Sports decided that the game would not be ready for public release in time for its October deadline and, rather than delay the title until part-way through the 2012-13 NBA season, opted to focus on the next year's pro-basketball video game.

"I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going.  We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides.  We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.  This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans."

The cancellation of NBA Live 13 leaves 2K Sports' NBA 2K13 as the sole pro-basketball video game simulation title for the second consecutive year.
