'Mass Effect 3' by developer BioWare.

The epic that is BioWare's Mass Effect franchise is about to get epic-er.  A new DLC expansion for Mass Effect 3 was announced late last week and, much like the expansion's title might suggest, promises to be big.

"Leviathan is our largest piece of single-player DLC for Mass Effect 3," stated game producer Mike Gamble.  "And it's coming this summer."

Key details are still very much under wraps, but Gamble was able to reveal that the Leviathan itself is an enigmatic and powerful creature that protagonist Shepard has been trying to track down.  As far as what the Leviathan looks and sounds like, Gamble said he'd rather not spoil it for gamers.  He did, however, give a clue.

"The Leviathan can very well be associated with, you know, water -- that kind of thing," he teased.

An exact release date for the Leviathan DLC hasn't yet been publicly stated, but Gamble says to expect it before the end of Summer.
