'Theatrhythm Final Fantasy' from Square-Enix.

Some say the Final Fantasy video game franchise is on its way out, and that music and rhythm games died off a year or two ago.  Apparently, Square-Enix doesn't listen too well to what some are saying, because the company will soon be releasing Theatrythm Final Fantasy, a stylus-based rhythm 3DS title featuring 25 years worth of Final Fantasy soundtracks.

"For the first time ever, we've actually released a rhythm game based upon Final Fantasy music," exclaimed Square-Enix spokesman Raio Mitsuno during E3 2012.  "It's always been a key pillar for our fans.  Everyone can name their favorite boss track, their favorite field track, their favorite town track."

Featuring soundtrack selections ranging from the original NES Final Fantasy through to Final Fantasy XIII, there should be something in this game for nearly every fan of the franchise.  Furthermore, the inclusion of iconic tracks such as "Terra's Theme" from Final Fantasy VI, "Aerith's Theme" from Final Fantasy VII, and the ending theme to Final Fantasy IV.  But while this title will feature a wealth of music from the series, lesser-known and somewhat forgotten titles such as the Final Fantasy Adventure, the Final Fantasy Legends series on the original Game Boy and the North American exclusive SNES title Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest have been omitted from this game.  Square, however, may try to remedy this in the future with downloadable content.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has already seen its release in Japan and will be coming out on the 3DS on July 3rd, 2012, in North America.  While there are currently no plans to release this title onto any platform but the 3DS, a PS Vita version would likely be fairly well received at some point in the future.
