Do you like 80's action movies?  Then Paradox Interactive has a game in development made just for you.

Being developed by the same folks behind the Magicka series, The Showdown Effect is an action/brawl-style computer game that takes its inspiration from 1980's action movies like 'Rambo', 'Terminator', and other muscle-bound "guy" movies of the era.  The game, however, wasn't originally concepted as such.

"At first it was...more like Smash Brothers with guns," explained Emil Englund, Design Director for The Showdown Effect.  "But...we started gearing it towards this more cinematic action game because we wanted to make it feel like something you'd want to run around and shoot and run out of windows."

The development team's mentaily in planning The Showdown Effect was that if it felt good, run with it.

The game is still early in its development and no solid release date has been set, but Englund believes it'll be available by the end of 2012.
