Chris Rock caused a little Web tempest with a July 4th tweet: "Happy white peoples independence day the slaves weren't free but I'm sure they enjoyed fireworks"
It was re-tweeted more than 11,000 times. While many jumped on the comedian citing his "racist" remark, others - including Don Cheadle - came to his defense.
"Chris Rock was making a joke," tweeted Cheadle, who wound up in a lively debate about it. "I thought it was funny," he wrote.
Rock, however, hasn't commented. Instead, he's tweeting that his May comedy with Julie Delpy movie, 2 Days in New York, is just out at iTunes and On Demand.
