The Hollywood Reporter has a spunky cover girl this week in pop star Katy Perry, whose first feature film, the concert documentary Part of Me, will hit theaters July 5.
She opens up to the trade publication about her painfully public split from ex-husband Russell Brand and her larger ambitions in the music biz.
Playing through the pain: "There were times when what was going on in my personal life was so overwhelming that I had to bend over to let those tears fall straight out of my eyes and not my false lashes just as I'm about to go up on that ramp and sing Teenage Dream."
Including divorce in the film: "Like how I write my songs, honesty has always worked for me. ... So if it ain't broke, why (expletive) fix it? ... Nobody knows what really happened except the two people who are in it."
Using her own money to finance Part of Me: "My frugal business manager, God bless him, was sweating."
Plans to launch her own record label: "When it does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success."
