There was one conspicuous absence at the fundraiser Sarah Jessica Parker threw Thursday night for President Obama's re-election campaign.
Parker's hubby, Matthew Broderick, could not attend the event, thrown in the couple's Manhattan home, because of work obligations -- namely, his starring role in the Broadway musical Nice Work If You Can Get It. According to People, the president -- who attended with wife Michelle -- understood, noting that the two actors had "been great friends."
Other bold-faced names in the crowd included Meryl Streep, Anna Wintour, Michael Kors and Bravo's Andy Cohen. They were seated at two long tables, decorated with flowers and votives, in two rooms. Hostess Parker welcomed the president with a hug and declared the first lady "radiant and extraordinary."
Parker and Broderick's 9-year-old son, James Wilkie, was similarly effusive. When President Obama observed, during a speech, that "GM is now back on top," the boy began applauding."He wanted to fire up the crowd," the president said.
